Ashvetia Says Russia and Georgia Match Unlikely Soon

Former player of Moscow’s Lokomotiv football club Mikhail Ashvetia doubts that a friendly match between the national teams of Russia and Georgia will take place in 2026. According to him, political factors make it difficult for the two teams to face each other on the field in the near future.

“Russia will not be able to play against Georgia in 2026. Politics will hinder the match,” Metaratings quoted Ashvetia as saying.

It is known that the Russian Football Union (RFU) remains under sanctions from UEFA and FIFA. Under the current circumstances, the Russian national team can only participate in friendly matches.
