
Major controversies have erupted around football in Turkey. The issues involve allegations of match-fixing and betting on games. This was reported by TRT Haber.
The police conducted special raids in 11 provinces across the country. As a result, 26 people were detained. Among them were 14 professional football players, football managers, and individuals working in various government institutions.
The detained individuals include Erden Timur, the former vice president of the “Galatasaray” club, a current police officer, and a senior official from the Turkish Football Federation. In total, 29 individuals are under suspicion, but three of them have not been located yet.
The investigation began earlier, and these arrests are a continuation of the case. The controversy has had a significant impact on Turkish football. The Football Federation has temporarily suspended 149 referees and their assistants from duty.
According to media reports, more football players may be summoned for questioning in the near future. Experts state that this case could be one of the biggest scandals in the history of Turkish football.
