Polina Kudermetova wins silver for Uzbekistan at Canberra tournament

Uzbekistan national team member Polina Kudermetova won a silver medal at the Canberra Challenger international tennis tournament held in Australia’s capital. In the final, she lost to Taiwan’s Joanna Garland 6:4, 6:2. This was reported by podrobno.uz. reports .

For her performance at the tournament, Kudermetova earned $19.7 thousand in prize money and collected 81 WTA ranking points. Champion Garland received $33.6 thousand and 125 ranking points.

This result was recorded as the athlete’s first major achievement under the flag of Uzbekistan. Her change of sporting nationality became known in mid-December 2025: at that time, the Russian flag on Kudermetova’s ITF profile was officially replaced with the Uzbek flag.

At the time of the switch, the tennis player was ranked 104th in the world. Her training is now led by former world No. 1 Dinara Safina. Safina previously guided Diana Shnaider to a silver medal at the Paris 2024 Olympics.
