In Matchday 16 of the German Bundesliga, leaders Bayern hosted Wolfsburg, produced a superb performance without causing much surprise, and won 8–1. The match took place on January 11 at Munich’s famous Allianz Arena.
Bayern’s fast and clinical finishing impressed the fans. The scoring opened in the 5th minute via a Fischer own goal. In the 30th minute, Dias extended the lead. Olise delivered an outstanding display, contributing a brace and an assist (50th and 76th minutes). An own goal by Jens in the 53rd minute, plus strikes from Guerreiro (68), Kane (69) and Goretzka (88), turned it into a show for Bayern supporters. Wolfsburg managed only Pejčinović’s goal in the 13th minute.
With this win, the Munich side moved to 44 points and opened an 11-point gap over second-placed Borussia Dortmund. Wolfsburg remain 14th with 15 points—an alarming result that calls for analysis and a tactical rethink.
For Bayern, Neuer started in goal. In defense, Laimer, Upamecano (Ito, 77), Tah and Stanišić were active. Pavlović and Bischof anchored midfield, with Goretzka replacing Pavlović in the 58th minute. In attack, Olise, Karl (Guerreiro, 57), Dias and Kane played the key roles. Chaves and Mike came on later.
For Wolfsburg, Grabara guarded the goal. The back line featured Kumbedi, Jens, Kouliérakis and Fischer. In deeper and central areas, Svanberg, Arnold and Eriksen worked effectively, with Hensel and Paredes introduced later. Mayer and Wimmer also supported the attack.
Only one booking was shown during the match: Svanberg (45+1). The defeat was unexpected for fans, but Bayern’s dominance and efficiency highlighted the balance of power in the German league once again.
