In the 17th round of the Iran Pro League, Persepolis defeated one of their key rivals, Sepahan, 2-1 at home. The most striking moment of the match was that both goals scored by the hosts were scored by Uzbek footballers: Oston Urunov opened the scoring, and Igor Sergeev scored the decisive goal, securing the victory.
After the snowy weather, intense competition, and a high-speed game, Igor Sergeev commented on his first goal for Persepolis, his understanding with O'runov, and his red card at the end of the match.
He said that the match was not easy for the team:
"This game was very difficult for us. I'm certainly happy to have scored my debut goal. But it was unfortunate that I received a red card in the last minute. Nevertheless, the 3 points earned were too expensive for the team. It's not easy to play in snowy weather, but all the players at Persepolis are real fighters and strong," said the striker.
Sergeev emphasized Oston Urunov's contribution to the scoring and expressed his gratitude to his teammate. According to him, it was Urunov's self-confidence that prompted him to score his debut goal faster:
"I think Oston saw that I was behind him and helped me greatly in scoring my first goal for Persepolis. Thank you to him for that. This goal has further strengthened my self-confidence," Sergeev said.
At the same time, the red card received in the final minutes of the match also affected the striker's mood. He also openly stated that he would apologize to the team's head coach because it was clear he would miss the next game:
"I apologize to the head coach for receiving a red card and for missing the next game. Thank you to all our fans. "Persepolis" is my team. We will fight for victory in every match," he said.
In short, this victory was important for "Persepolis" both from the standings and psychologically. Most importantly, the goals of Urunov and Sergeev once again brought pride to the Uzbek fans.
