Rakitic demands proper tribute for Messi at "Barcelona"

Former "Barcelona" midfielder Ivan Rakitic believes Lionel Messi deserves a grand tribute from the Catalan club. Speaking on his 38th birthday, the retired Croatian star expressed his deep admiration for his former teammate, urging the Argentine legend to continue playing for a few more years. Reports Goal.com.

Rakitic emphasized that Messi's impact goes beyond club loyalties. He stated that anyone who loves football loves Messi, adding that the eight-time Ballon d'Or winner has completely changed how the game is understood. The Croatian feels a tribute is necessary not just in Spain, but globally.
The comments follow the failed attempt to bring Messi back to "Barcelona" in 2023 before he joined "Inter Miami". Administrative issues reportedly blocked the romantic return, denying fans the perfect final chapter for the club's greatest player.

During the interview, Rakitic also praised current "Paris Saint-Germain" manager Luis Enrique, calling him the best coach in the world. He expressed regret that Enrique did not stay longer at "Barcelona" after leading them to a treble in the 2014-2015 season.
Reflecting on their 2015 Champions League victory against "Juventus", Rakitic admitted his sadness that "Barcelona" has not won the European title since. He believes the team lost their hunger, a struggle that continues as the current squad recently drew against "Newcastle" in the tournament.
