James Rodríguez returns: First MLS start, World Cup preparation begins

James Rodríguez, best known for his career at Real Madrid, is now testing himself in a new stage. The Colombian footballer made his first MLS start for Minnesota United.
He played 63 minutes in the match against Los Angeles. Although his team lost 0-1, Rodríguez’s return to the field was an important signal for fans.
After the match, the experienced midfielder commented on his condition and spoke openly about his plans. He said the main goal is to arrive at the 2026 World Cup in peak physical form.
“I felt good. Unfortunately, the result was not what we wanted. But we have to keep moving forward. I will arrive at the World Cup in very good shape. There is still time, and I am working at maximum capacity,” Rodríguez said in an interview with Goal.
It should be noted that the player was recently hospitalized because of dehydration. He is now trying to return to his optimal condition through match practice.
For reference, Colombia, led by Rodríguez, will face Uzbekistan, Portugal and DR Congo in the group stage of the 2026 World Cup.
In short, James Rodríguez is returning again — and this time he is doing so with a major goal. Every match before the World Cup could become part of his revival.
