Former Manchester United assistant coach Rene Meulensteen explained the reasons for Memphis Depay's failure in an interview with GOAL. In his opinion, the Dutch forward lacks the iron discipline and consistency characteristic of Bruno Fernandes.
Meulensteen said: "Memphis does not have that iron mentality that Bruno Fernandes has, to work at the maximum level in every training session and every match. His performances are always fluctuating – sometimes he makes brilliant moves, and sometimes he is completely invisible. At big clubs like Manchester United, it is required to show a consistently high level in every match."
The footballer, who moved to Manchester United from PSV in 2015 with high expectations, could not find his form in the English Premier League. Although he later played for Lyon, Barcelona, and Atletico Madrid, he never fully achieved the status of a world-class star. While the Brazilian football environment currently suits his technical skills, his career in Europe leaves many questions unanswered.
