Donyell Malen: The new hero in Rome and Gasperini's tactics

Donyell Malen is enjoying the brightest period of his career. After failing to establish himself at Borussia Dortmund and Aston Villa, the Dutch forward has truly flourished since his January loan move to Roma. With a decisive goal against Parma and 13 goals in total, he has caught up with Harry Kane in the Serie A top scorer race, according to Goal.com reports.

Roma head coach Gian Piero Gasperini implemented an unexpected tactical shift by moving the forward to a central striker position, much like he did with Ademola Lookman at Atalanta. Despite being under 1.80m tall, Malen is proving dangerous in the opposition box, outperforming pure strikers like Artem Dovbyk and Evan Ferguson.

The Italian press is calling Malen one of the best forwards in Europe. Corriere dello Sport compared his performance to the legendary Gabriel Batistuta, highlighting his composure under pressure. Roma's management plans to exercise their option to buy the player permanently for 25 million euros.

This form is excellent news for Netherlands head coach Ronald Koeman. Ahead of the World Cup, Malen is clearly outperforming rivals like Brian Brobbey and Wout Weghorst, becoming the prime candidate to lead the national team's attack.
