Chelsea Reject Leeds United’s Offer for Mudryk

London club Chelsea have officially rejected Leeds United’s initial offer to loan Ukrainian winger Mykhailo Mudryk. According to BBC Sport, the Premier League side’s loan terms fell significantly short of what the “aristocrats” were expecting, although negotiations between the clubs are still ongoing. Goal.com reports it.

The 25-year-old wants regular playing time to regain his form after a suspension and a lengthy absence. Mudryk is reportedly particularly interested in continuing his career at Elland Road and joining Daniel Farke’s team.

Leeds United’s Terms and Chelsea’s Plans

Leeds United have become the leading contenders in the race because the club are prepared to take the player on a straight loan without an option to buy. This would allow Chelsea’s hierarchy to retain long-term control over the player, who was signed for £62 million in 2023.

If the transfer goes through, Mykhailo could become the fifth signing of Daniel Farke’s team in the summer transfer window. Leeds already have players such as Harry Wilson, Tarik Muharemovic, James Trafford and Nico Elvedi in their squad. The team will begin its next Premier League campaign against Nottingham Forest on Saturday.

Other Contenders and Squad Trimming

Chelsea head coach Xabi Alonso is actively working to reduce the squad before the transfer window closes. As a result, several players have moved to other clubs: Axel Disasi joined Crystal Palace, Benoît Badiashile moved to Napoli, while Atlético Madrid are completing a £65 million transfer for Nicolas Jackson. The futures of other players, such as Liam Delap and Dário Essugo, also remain uncertain.

Although negotiations with Leeds are continuing, there are other contenders for Mudryk. Chelsea previously rejected Brentford’s loan offer because the “Bees” demanded that the deal include a purchase option. Coventry City are also interested, but the player himself prefers to stay in England, while a move to Strasbourg or Italy is considered unlikely.

Commenting on the situation, head coach Xabi Alonso said: “We’ll see. We still have time to make a decision, and we don’t need to rush on many matters. We’ll resolve them at the right time. For now, there is nothing definite.”
