In the UK, nearly 30 million people who bought Apple or Samsung phones between 2015 and 2024 may get compensation. The consumer protection group Consumer Watchdog has filed a court case. Each user could receive about £17.
The case claims some large companies charged Apple and Samsung excessive prices for phone parts. This raised phone costs and harmed users. The trial will last five weeks.
If Consumer Watchdog wins, the £480 million sought will be shared among users. Each user would get about £17. The company previously said the case had “no basis.”
Some major manufacturers also face similar cases in other countries. According to CEO Anabel Hoult, the court shows the power of consumers to hold large companies accountable.
