Apple lost in court in the UK - a fine of £1.5 billion

The UK Court of Appeal for Competition ruled on a £1.5 billion collective action against Apple - the court upheld the plaintiffs. A collective lawsuit has been filed on behalf of nearly 20 million users in the UK, according to Rozetked.

The lawsuit was filed due to dissatisfaction with Apple's App Store policies. The company was accused of abusing its dominant position and charging developers with "unfair" 30% commissions on the App Store.

"[The court] ruled that Apple abused its dominant position by obstructing competition in the app distribution market from October 2015 to the end of 2020 and "extracting excessive and unfair amounts" from developers as commissions."

The judge ruled that the plaintiffs could demand compensation. Apple's fines will be decided at a hearing in November 2025.
