
Roskomnadzor will continue to impose restrictions on the WhatsApp messenger (belonging to Meta, a company recognized as extremist and banned in the Russian Federation) and may completely block it if it does not comply with the requirements of Russian legislation. This was reported by the ministry.
"The restrictions will be introduced gradually, allowing users to switch to using other messengers. We recommend switching to national services. Restrictions on WhatsApp will continue," the message says.
Earlier, Roskomnadzor partially blocked WhatsApp and Telegram in southern Russia.
In October, it was reported that Russian operators were asked by Telegram and WhatsApp contractors to stop sending calls and SMS messages to new users.
This means that users with Russian SIM cards will no longer be able to register or log in to messengers using a Russian number.
