China launches a record-breaking experimental facility

China has built the world’s most powerful CHIEF1900 centrifuge, 3dnews.ru reports. The device was delivered on December 22 to its installation site at Zhejiang University.

The centrifuge can spin multi-ton models at an acceleration of 1900 g·t. For example, a 1-ton model would experience that level of load. This significantly speeds up experiments, allowing scientists to effectively “compress” time and space.

Developed by Shanghai Electric Nuclear Power Group, the facility will be installed 15 meters underground. This improves safety and reduces external noise and hazards.

Using the centrifuge, scientists will be able to study the millennia-long effects on dams, geological processes, and materials in a short time.
