Amazon customer who bought a $3000 RTX 5090 received a rock and a towel

The shortage of RTX 50-series graphics cards and rising prices have created new opportunities for scammers, Playground.ru reports. According to information shared on Reddit, a user ordered an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5090, but received rocks wrapped in a towel instead of the expected device.

It was an MSI SUPRIM RTX 5090 purchased via Amazon Resale, a section where returned items are sold at a discount. Amazon claims such products are inspected before being shipped again. However, in this case, that inspection appears not to have happened.

According to the victim, this was the fourth attempt to buy an RTX 5090 through Amazon. They had to pay more than $3000 ($3000 ≈ 36 million UZS). But in the end, only foreign items arrived, with a weight close to that of a graphics card.

Users believe warehouse staff shipped the package without inspection, relying on the shipment’s weight. Some say such incidents have become a systemic issue on Amazon: in previous cases, customers received rice, pasta, or construction debris instead of an RTX 5090.

Amid strong demand, high prices, and major incentives for scammers, experts and users advise extra caution when shopping online. Today, a high price does not guarantee product safety. The RTX 5090 has become one of the most attractive targets for fraudsters.
