US bans all foreign-made routers

The U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has decided to ban the import of all new consumer routers made abroad into the country. This restriction includes not only traditional home routers, but also portable Wi-Fi devices as well as LTE and 5G equipment used in residential settings. This was reported by Ixbt.com reports.
Under the new rules, imports of foreign devices that provide connection to a home network via a SIM card will be strictly controlled. However, for now, this ban does not apply to smartphones with hotspot functionality.
The restrictions also apply only to new models that have not yet gone on sale.
Existing older models and corporate-grade routers have temporarily been exempted from these restrictions. The FCC is expected to announce soon a list of devices made in allied countries that will be allowed to enter the U.S. market.
Chinese brands and routers made in that country are highly likely not to be included in this list.
