Popular Russian applications have started detecting VPN software on smartphones

The most popular Android applications in Russia have begun mass implementation of mechanisms to detect VPN networks. This was reported by Ixbt.com news.

According to data from the company RKS Global, 22 out of 30 popular applications studied are capable of detecting VPN networks. Of those, 19 transmit this information to the developer's server.

By mid-April, this figure reached 100 percent. The applications not only check whether a VPN is in use but also analyze network routes and DNS settings.

Services such as Wildberries, Ozon, 2GIS, and RuStore request a list of all VPN programs installed on the device. This allows them to identify exactly which VPN clients are being used.

The study paid particular attention to Yandex products. All of the company's applications check the VPN status through a unified server and are capable of receiving remote commands.

It was also discovered that Yandex Browser searches for traces of Tor on smartphones. Experts believe that such mechanisms go beyond standard anti-fraud protection and impact personal privacy.
