Seres patents a system that detaches the battery from the vehicle during a crash

Chinese company Seres has patented an unusual technology aimed at ensuring the safety of electric vehicles. According to the new system, in the event of a serious traffic accident, the car's battery pack automatically detaches from the chassis. This was reported by Ixbt.com reports .

The main goal of this solution is to reduce the risk of fire and short circuits. The high-voltage battery is a primary source of danger during a crash, and physically distancing it helps save the lives of the driver and passengers.

According to patent documents, the system is equipped with front and rear support elements and electric actuators. Upon receiving a crash signal, the mechanism instantly releases the fasteners and disconnects the battery pack from the vehicle. The design relies on special interlocking elements to ensure a fast and controlled process.

This patent application was filed in November 2023, with official approval granted on May 8, 2026. Notably, Seres previously obtained a patent for another unusual solution installed in its cars — an in-car toilet.
