US bank exposes customer data to artificial intelligence

Community Bank, operating in Pennsylvania, Ohio, and West Virginia, has reported a serious cybersecurity incident. Sensitive customer information, including names, dates of birth, and social security numbers, has been exposed. This is reported by Techcrunch.com reports .

According to an 8-K filing with the US Securities and Exchange Commission, the data breach was caused by the use of "unauthorized artificial intelligence software." Bank management decided to disclose the incident due to the high sensitivity and volume of the data involved.

Experts believe that an employee may have uploaded customer data to an online AI chatbot. This created the risk of sensitive information falling into the hands of a third party – the chatbot developer.

Community Bank has not yet disclosed how many customers were affected or which specific AI application was used. The bank is currently analyzing the impacted data and has begun sending notifications to affected customers in accordance with the law.
