Former Tesla executive Drew Baglino launches heat pump startup

Former Tesla high-ranking executive Drew Baglino has founded a new startup called Sadi Thermal Machines. This is his second company since leaving Tesla. According to documents, the startup was registered in June 2025 and is based in Scotts Valley, California. This is reported by Techcrunch.com .

The company is named after the French physicist Nicolas Léonard Sadi Carnot, one of the founders of thermodynamics. There is little information about the startup's activities so far, but according to LinkedIn, a number of former Tesla engineers are working there.

Drew Baglino worked at Tesla for nearly two decades, participating in key projects such as the Roadster, Powerwall, and Powerpack. Until he left the company in April 2024, he was responsible for the development of electric motors, batteries, and power electronics.

During his time at Tesla, Baglino was also a patent holder for heat pump technology. His developments served as the basis for the famous "octovalve" system used in Model Y vehicles. In 2022, Elon Musk and Baglino discussed the potential for applying Tesla's heat pump technology for residential and commercial use.
