TV Time Founder Launches Bingers to Revive the Beloved App

After the popular TV Time app shut down, a new app called Bingers for tracking series and movies was created to fill the gap and restore familiar features for fans. The new project was developed by Antonio Pinto, one of TV Time’s founders, who said he had set out to bring back the original platform’s best features. TV Time’s Unexpected Shutdown and Fan Backlash

According to TechCrunch, Whip Media, the company that owned the TV Time app, decided to shut down the product to focus its efforts on artificial intelligence. The decision shocked and disappointed its loyal user base. When the app was closed, it had surpassed 26.4 million installs, a strong figure for an app in this category.

More than 28,000 users angered by the shutdown signed a petition asking Whip Media to save TV Time through financial support, crowdfunding, or subscriptions. However, the company did not change its plans, and the app was eventually removed from the stores on schedule. Antonio Pinto then decided to create a new alternative to meet fans’ demands.

Key Features of the Bingers App

Unlike other similar trackers, TV Time stood out by offering more than just a way to mark watched movies. It also provided users with a forum for discussing their favorite episodes. This social environment allowed fans to share theories, create memes, and connect with other viewers.

According to Antonio Pinto, Bingers aims to restore this unique social environment. The new app consists of three main sections:

• a tool for tracking movies and series that users have watched or plan to watch;
• the ability to discover new content;
• a dedicated social network environment for fans.

Users can also import their data from the TV Time archive into Bingers. Before TV Time ended its operations, it provided a GDPR-compliant export tool, and Bingers has enabled users to upload this data again.

Financial Sustainability and Future Plans

To address the financial costs that contributed to TV Time’s shutdown, Bingers has chosen a different approach. Antonio Pinto says the new app is designed to download users’ libraries directly onto their phones. This allows resource-intensive processes such as calendars and watchlists to be moved from company servers to users’ devices.

Initially, Bingers will rely on direct contributions from users to cover server costs. In the long term, its creator is also considering a new business model that could bring fans together in real life, although details have not yet been disclosed.
