Yale students created an AI network for iMessage
Yale students Nathaneo Johnson and Sean Hargrow have launched "Series," an AI-powered social network that operates entirely within Apple's iMessage platform. The startup recently secured $5.1 million in seed funding from prominent investors, including Reddit CEO Steve Huffman and Venmo co-founder Iqram Magdon-Ismail. By using AI to match users based on shared interests and goals, the service has already achieved a remarkable 82% engagement rate among its growing user base of students and professionals. The founders aim to use the new capital to expand their engineering team and further develop their vision of moving social interaction toward conversational AI interfaces.

To use the platform, users only need to send a message to a special number via iMessage. Based on the user's interests and goals, the system presents profiles of suitable people. Each profile consists of a photo and brief information, and users can start communication without revealing their personal phone numbers. Currently, the service is used by more than 750 university students and specialists from various fields.
According to the project's founder Johnson, modern technologies are moving from traditional search engines to live communication interfaces. The activity rate among Series users is 82 percent, which is higher than the early-period figures of the Facebook network. The attracted funds will be directed at expanding the engineering team and increasing the product's capabilities. The company's headquarters is located in New York City, and the founders continue to run the business without leaving their studies.
