Google updates Gemini app to intensify competition with ChatGPT and Claude

At its annual Google I/O event, Google announced a series of updates for the Gemini app. These include the “Daily Brief” feature, a refreshed interface, a new AI video model called Gemini Omni, and the Gemini Spark personal assistant. These innovations aim to transform Google’s Gemini app from a simple chatbot into a multi-functional AI hub and strengthen its position against competitors like ChatGPT and Claude. This is reported by Techcrunch.com .
The “Daily Brief” feature aggregates a user’s emails, calendar, and important tasks, presenting them in an organized format. The system not only summarizes information but also prioritizes tasks and provides recommendations for next steps. This feature is currently being rolled out to Google AI subscribers in the US.
The app design has also been fundamentally changed. The new design language, called “Neural Expressive,” includes fluid animations, vibrant colors, and accessible typography. Responses are no longer presented as walls of text; instead, key information is highlighted in bold at the top, while additional elements appear as the user scrolls down the page.
Gemini Spark is a 24/7 personal AI agent designed to help manage a user’s digital life. It has the ability to run in the background, continuing to perform tasks even when the phone is locked. The Gemini Omni video model enables the creation of high-quality videos based on text prompts, further expanding Google’s capabilities in generative media.
