A janitor died in the elevator shaft at the "Riviera" shopping center in Tashkent

On February 3, a tragic incident occurred at the "Riviera" shopping center located in the Olmazor district of Tashkent city. As a result of the incident, a woman working as a janitor at this shopping center died, reports the uz24.uz website.

What caused the unfortunate incident?
According to initial information, the incident occurred as a result of the elevator falling into the shaft where the woman was located. The woman sustained severe injuries and died at the scene.

The press service of the Prosecutor General's Office of the Republic of Uzbekistan provided official information about this incident. According to it, on February 3 at 11:10 AM, 45-year-old Sh. M., who worked as a janitor at the "Riviera" shopping center, was cleaning glass panels inside the elevator shaft when the incident occurred.

At the time of the incident, the woman was standing in the corner of the elevator shaft. At that moment, the elevator cabin doors closed and moved upwards. As a result, the elevator counterweights moved down and crushed the woman.

What is known about the deceased woman?
Sh. M. was born in Boka district of Tashkent region. She had been working as a janitor at the "Riviera" shopping center since 2020. She left behind two children.

Bekzod Berdiyev, press secretary of the Committee on Industrial, Radiation and Nuclear Safety under the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan, commented on the possible causes of the incident. According to him, the main reason may have been the failure to comply with safety regulations while working in the elevator shaft.

Currently, an investigative team consisting of employees from the prosecutor's office and internal affairs bodies is working at the scene. A pre-investigation check is underway to study all the details of the incident and identify those responsible. Based on the results of the investigation, further procedural decisions will be made.
