Green Development Concept Presented In Samarkand

Green Development Concept Presented In Samarkand
The first historic forum on climate issues in Central Asia was held in Samarkand, Nova24.uz reported. As part of the event, Uzbekistan signed several important cooperation agreements.

Among them was a Memorandum of Understanding with the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) in the fields of environmental protection, climate change mitigation, and sustainable use of natural resources. This document aims to support sustainable, climate-resilient, and low-carbon development in Uzbekistan and the region.

The Ministries of Ecology of Uzbekistan and Natural Resources of Kyrgyzstan agreed to allocate 9 quotas (5 for undergraduate and 4 for master's programs) for Kyrgyz students to study at the University of Environmental and Climate Change Studies in Central Asia.

Additionally, a strategic cooperation agreement was signed with UNICEF to implement joint actions in environmental protection, climate change adaptation, disaster risk reduction, and ensuring inclusive, sustainable services for children. Special attention will be given to increasing children's participation in solving environmental issues.

The forum gathered three UN Deputy Secretaries-General, heads of UN environmental organizations and conventions, representatives from over 30 countries and agencies (UNCCD, FAO, UNIDO, UNECE, ICBA, etc.), as well as ministers and experts. The Green Development Concept was presented and a consensus was reached to adopt it at COP30 in Brazil.
