Propane prices rise in Uzbekistan ahead of methane price hike

Propane prices rise in Uzbekistan ahead of methane price hike
In Uzbekistan, propane prices have sharply increased ahead of the anticipated rise in methane prices, reports Nova24.uz. Economist Otabek Bakirov noted that oligarchs and monopolists are exploiting the situation to artificially inflate prices, putting pressure on the population.

According to him, in 2024, after methane prices rose by 20%, AI-80 gasoline prices increased by 34%, and propane prices doubled. This was accompanied by the creation of artificial shortages and sharp price hikes.

As of April 29, 2025, propane prices have risen by 745.9 soums, or 14.2%, over the past week, reaching 6014 soums. This increase is linked to new tariffs coming into effect on May 1 and a 39% rise in methane prices.

Bakirov emphasized that oligarchs and monopolists may use this situation to further increase propane prices. Additionally, from May 1, an increase in the utilization fee and a reduction in the duty-free import limit are expected.
