Uzbekistan boosts wheat imports from Kazakhstan by 30%
Uzbekistan increased its wheat imports from Kazakhstan by 30%, upl.uz reported.

According to “Kazakhstan Temir Zholy,” from September 2024 to April 2025, Kazakhstan exported 7.6 million tons of new-harvest wheat — up 58% compared to the same period last season.

Uzbekistan remained the leading buyer, importing 2.7 million tons — 30% more than the previous year, accounting for over one-third of Kazakhstan's total grain exports.

Tajikistan was second with 1.1 million tons (1.5 times growth), followed by Iran with 889,000 tons — 16 times more than the prior season.

Exports to Azerbaijan rose 114-fold to 569,000 tons. Afghanistan imported 270,000 tons (+33%), and Kyrgyzstan doubled its imports to 181,000 tons.

In March 2025, “Uzbekistan Temir Yullari” and “Kazakhstan Temir Zholy” agreed to cut transit tariffs by 40% for grain shipments to Afghanistan via the Oasis (Karakalpakstan) — Galaba (Surkhandarya) route.

In 2024, Kazakhstan harvested one of its largest wheat crops in the past decade, allowing it to meet domestic needs and significantly boost exports.
