Within the framework of the Economic Cooperation Organisation summit held in Khonqandi on July 4, a high-level meeting took place between the President of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, and Pakistan’s Prime Minister, Shehbaz Sharif, according to president.uz. In the context of the summit, this dialogue held significant importance with practical steps aimed at elevating the strategic partnership between the two countries to a new level.
During the meeting, foremost discussions focused on strengthening and expanding cooperation based on the adopted "roadmap". Both sides noted with satisfaction the active and effective conduct of various levels of dialogue — particularly the increase in bilateral trade volume, the growing number of joint ventures, and the expanding geography of direct flights with Pakistan. Currently, Uzbek trade houses have been established in Karachi and Lahore, marking an important step in the economic integration of the two nations.
Special attention was paid to accelerating cooperation projects and programs in the trade-economy, investment, and transport-communications sectors. In particular, it was decided to deepen practical collaboration on the construction and development of the Trans-Afghan railway. This project holds great significance not only for the two countries but also for expanding transport and logistics opportunities across the region.
It was highlighted that the effective organization of the planned intergovernmental commission meeting and business forum this year will contribute to further deepening bilateral economic relations. Specific directions were outlined for developing large-scale economic and transport infrastructure, creating new jobs, and implementing joint projects.
The meeting also included an exchange of views on international and regional issues, reinforcing the growing foreign policy convergence between the two nations.
With that, the official state visit of President Mirziyoyev to Azerbaijan concluded. At Fuzuli International Airport, the President was ceremonially farewelled by Azerbaijan’s Minister of Culture, Adil Karimli, and other officials. The President departed for Tashkent, and it is expected that the results of the talks will open new horizons for both countries. Read 'Zamin' on Telegram!
