Uzbekistan has proposed limiting the advertising of breast milk substitutes and tightening regulations on the production, import, storage, and sale of baby food, Kursiv.media reported. The initiative was announced during a presentation attended by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
These measures will be part of a national program aimed at promoting exclusive breastfeeding. The goal is to increase the rate of exclusive breastfeeding for infants up to six months to 70% by 2030, in line with World Health Organization recommendations.
The program will include WHO and UNICEF initiatives such as “Baby-Friendly Hospital” and “10 Steps to Successful Breastfeeding.” Medical staff will receive training in counseling, and educational activities will be held for pregnant and breastfeeding women.
