At the "Mayiz Sayli" festival held for the first time in the Kushrabat district, "Samarkand Raisins" was registered as a geographical indication, the Samarkand regional administration reported.
The event was attended by Acting Hokim Adiz Boboyev, Minister of Justice Akbar Toshkulov, representatives of various ministries, the media, and the general public. At this ceremony, an official document on the state registration of "Samarkand Raisins" was presented.
According to the data, last year 663 thousand tons of grapes were grown in Samarkand, and this year this figure is expected to reach 700 thousand tons. In the first half of the year, 2 thousand tons of grapes and 34.2 thousand tons of raisins were exported.
In the Koshrabad district, grapes are grown on 7 thousand hectares of land, 50-55 thousand tons of grapes are harvested annually, most of which are converted into raisins. The trademark "Kushrabat raisins" has also been officially registered.
