The coverage of the pension system in Uzbekistan is constantly expanding. According to the Pension Fund under the Ministry of Finance, as of October 1, 2025, a total of 4 million 241.8 thousand citizens were registered as pensioners across the country.
Of these, 3 million 514.1 thousand are recipients of old-age pensions, 482.1 thousand are recipients of disability pensions, and 245.6 thousand families are recipients of state assistance due to the loss of a breadwinner. These figures show that almost every tenth adult of the country's population is provided with social guarantees through the pension system.
By region, the largest number of pensioners was recorded in the Fergana region - 500.8 thousand people. The following places are occupied by Samarkand region (451.6 thousand), Tashkent city (380.4 thousand) and Tashkent region (383.1 thousand). At the same time, there are 399 thousand pensioners in Andijan region, 381.4 thousand in Kashkadarya, 285.2 thousand in Surkhandarya, 268.6 thousand in Bukhara, 235.4 thousand in Khorezm, 226.7 thousand in Karakalpakstan, 333.2 thousand in Namangan, 145.2 thousand in Jizzakh, 142.1 thousand in Navoi.
The lowest indicator was observed in the Syrdarya region - 108.9 thousand citizens. Experts attribute this difference to the population size of the regions, labor market activity, and demographic changes.
Also, work on digitalization and automation of pension payments is currently consistently continuing in the country. This process is aimed at creating convenience for pensioners, preventing corruption, and ensuring the transparency of the payment system.
According to the Pension Fund, since October, the process of receiving pensions in cash has begun to be carried out through biometric identification of citizens through Face-ID. Thanks to this innovation, the ability to receive payments quickly, securely, and personally has been created.
Experts note that in recent years, significant reforms have been carried out in the country to modernize the pension system, introduce digital solutions, and improve the quality of public services. These changes will be important not only for pensioners, but also for citizens who will join the system in the future.
