Important changes are being introduced in Uzbekistan’s system for prescribing medicines. From now on, antibiotics and systemically acting hormonal medications will be dispensed exclusively on the basis of an electronic prescription.
Under the new procedure, all information about medicines prescribed to a patient will be entered directly by the physician into the electronic prescription system and formalized using digital verification methods. This will help strengthen control over the circulation of medicines and prevent unauthorized use.
A special Expert Council will be established under the Ministry of Health to form an exact list of medicines dispensed via electronic prescriptions. At the first stage, antibiotics and systemically acting hormonal medicines will be prescribed in electronic form.
In addition, the short-number Call Center 1003 will provide additional conveniences for patients on bed rest and those suffering from chronic illnesses. In particular, such patients will be able to contact their family doctor or a specialized physician remotely and obtain an electronic prescription to continue their course of treatment.
The new system is expected to become a convenient and transparent solution for both patients and the healthcare system.
