President Shavkat Mirziyoyev pardoned 392 convicts

President Shavkat Mirziyoyev has signed a decree pardoning a group of prisoners in Uzbekistan ahead of the nationwide Navruz celebrations and the holy holiday of Eid al-Fitr. The move was presented as a reflection of the values of kindness, mercy, tolerance and forgiveness deeply rooted in Uzbek society, as well as a practical expression of the state’s humanitarian policy.
Under the decree, 392 individuals serving sentences were granted clemency in accordance with Article 109, Clause 23 of the Constitution of Uzbekistan. The pardon applies to those who were reported to have sincerely repented for their crimes and shown a firm commitment to reform.
Of the total number, 223 people were fully released from their main punishment. Another 82 were granted early conditional release, while prison terms for 34 individuals were replaced with lighter penalties. In addition, the sentences of 53 prisoners were reduced.
The list of those pardoned includes 3 foreign nationals, 26 women, 14 men over the age of 60, and 166 young people. It also includes 24 individuals who had previously taken part in the activities of banned organizations.
Authorities said relevant ministries and agencies have been instructed to help those released return to their families and reintegrate into society. The support measures are expected to focus on social adaptation, employment, the promotion of a healthy lifestyle and helping the pardoned individuals find a достойное place in the community.
