A possible meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump could take place in Saudi Arabia or the United Arab Emirates, Reuters reported, citing two Russian sources.
According to the sources, in recent weeks, high-ranking Russian officials have visited Saudi Arabia and the UAE. However, according to reports, there are certain contradictions to this proposal, as these countries have close military and security ties with the United States. Turkey, where the first talks between Russia and Ukraine took place, is not being considered as a venue for this meeting.
According to Reuters, Trump held one of his first talks during his presidency with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. Putin also visited Saudi Arabia and the UAE in 2023 and thanked Mohammed bin Salman for his assistance in the prisoner exchange.
Mohammed bin Salman and UAE leader Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan did not join the sanctions against Russia during the conflict in Ukraine. The UAE, on the other hand, acted as a mediator in the prisoner exchange between Russia and Ukraine. They also maintain contacts with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
In addition, these two countries are not members of the Hague court, which issued an international arrest warrant for Putin.
The Kremlin refused to comment on these reports, and Saudi Arabia and the UAE did not comment on this issue.
Also in January, Trump called on Saudi Arabia and OPEC countries to lower oil prices. In his opinion, if fuel prices had decreased, the conflict between Russia and Ukraine would have ended faster.
On February 3, Trump announced that his administration plans to hold meetings and negotiations with Ukraine, Russia and other countries. However, he did not disclose details about which parties would participate in these meetings. Follow “Zamin” news on “Telegram”
