The President of Uzbekistan and the Prime Minister of Malaysia agreed to launch a period of innovative development of partnership.

On February 5, at the Perdana Putra government complex, the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev and the Prime Minister of Malaysia Anwar Ibrahim held talks in a narrow circle and with the participation of official delegations.

At the beginning of the conversation, the Head of State expressed gratitude to the Prime Minister of Malaysia for the warm welcome and congratulated him on the high results of the successfully implemented "Madani" state strategy.

Issues of further expanding and strengthening friendly and partnership relations between Uzbekistan and Malaysia were considered.

It was noted that the historic visit of the Prime Minister of Malaysia to Uzbekistan in May last year gave a great impetus to the development of multifaceted relations between the two countries.

Political dialogue and interparliamentary relations have become more active. The volume of mutual trade, the number of joint ventures and air flights are increasing.

Last year, the first meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission was held effectively, the Business Council was established, and a number of large business forums were organized.

On the eve of the visit, a meeting of think tanks, presentations of Uzbekistan's tourism potential and cultural heritage, and a forum of rectors of leading higher education institutions were held.

In order to develop cooperation and effectively coordinate the implementation of agreements at the highest level, it was decided to establish a platform for strategic dialogue of foreign ministers.

The importance of continuing mutual support within the framework of the United Nations, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and other international structures was noted.

Particular attention was paid to issues of practical cooperation in the trade, economic and investment spheres.

In order to increase commodity exchange, it was agreed to develop an Agreement on Preferential Trade, hold mutual industrial exhibitions, and adopt an Industrial Cooperation Program.

The Malaysian government actively supports Uzbekistan's accession to the World Trade Organization.

The leaders agreed to declare 2025-2026 a period of innovative development of Uzbek-Malaysian partnership.


The priority areas of the new model of economic cooperation were identified. These are petrochemicals and chemicals, electronics and semiconductor industries, innovative industries, "smart" agriculture, "green" energy, pilgrimage tourism, and others.

In order to support cooperation projects, a special economic zone is being created in the Tashkent region under the management of a leading Malaysian company.

The heads of state stressed the importance of continuing active cultural and humanitarian exchanges. This year, cultural weeks will be held in Uzbekistan and Malaysia.

The leaders also exchanged views on pressing issues of regional cooperation. The importance of joining forces in the fight against terrorism, radicalism, and Islamophobia was noted.

As a result of the negotiations, it was decided to prepare a "roadmap" for the timely and high-quality implementation of the agreements reached.

Finally, the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev invited the Prime Minister of Malaysia, Anwar Ibrahim, to pay an official visit to Uzbekistan.
