Palestinians will not have the right to return to the Gaza Strip as part of a settlement with Israel and the restoration of the exclave under the US plan. This was announced by US President Donald Trump.

"No, they will not, because they will have much better housing," Trump replied when asked if the Palestinians would have the right to return.

The US president explained that he was talking about "building permanent settlements" for the Palestinians.

Trump had previously said that Washington was ready to take control of Gaza. According to him, it is necessary to relocate the Palestinian population to other areas, clear the exclave of destroyed buildings and turn it into a center of economic development that will provide new jobs and housing.

"Life for the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip has been 'hell' and it is not advisable for them to return to this territory," Trump believes.

The politician proposed the creation of alternative settlement zones for Gazans, which neighboring countries could provide. Financing the project, in his opinion, should be undertaken by the rich countries of the region.

In particular, Trump offered Jordan and Egypt to accept the population of Gaza, noting that we are talking about "one and a half million people." Both countries rejected this proposal.

Hamas representatives also opposed the decision

"The Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip have endured 15 months of death and destruction just to stay in their land," said Bassem Naim, a member of the organization's politburo, in an interview with The New York Times (NYT).

Naim added that "the Gazans will not accept any proposal or decision, even if it is well-intentioned and carried out under the guise of reconstruction, as US President Trump has proposed."

Arab leaders responded to the US president's proposal by sending a letter to the US Secretary of State. In it, they said that the expulsion of the Palestinians was unacceptable, calling such a move not only a violation of international law but also a threat to regional security.

Trump also said that he could buy the Gaza Strip, establish control over it, and then rebuild it with the help of Arab countries.

"I have decided to buy Gaza and own it. As for the reconstruction, we can hand it over to other countries in the Middle East, so that they can rebuild individual parts, or others can do it under our auspices," the US president said.

He explained that the US is forced to maintain control of the Gaza Strip in order to prevent Hamas from returning to the territory.

"There is no place to return there. This place must be completely demolished. The rest of it will be demolished. Everything will be destroyed," the politician said.

Trump also said he was open to the possibility of admitting some Palestinian refugees to the United States, but that he would consider such requests on a case-by-case basis.
