The social network X (formerly Twitter), owned by billionaire Elon Musk, has agreed to pay Donald Trump nearly $10 million to settle a lawsuit filed by the US president after his account was blocked. The Wall Street Journal reported this, citing its sources.

The lawsuit was filed in 2021 against Twitter and the company's then-CEO Jack Dorsey.

According to the publication's sources, the Trump team also considered the option of suspending the trial due to the US president's close relationship with Musk and the businessman's $250 million investment in his election campaign.

In January 2021, Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter blocked Donald Trump's accounts after supporters of the US presidential election stormed the Capitol. According to social media executives, Trump's posts supported the rioters. Musk, who became the owner of Twitter in November 2022, unblocked Trump's account.

Meta agreed to pay Trump $25 million in late January 2025 to settle a 2021 lawsuit. According to The New York Times, $22 million will go to fund Trump's presidential library, and the remaining $3 million will be used to pay for legal fees.
