After a 9-month hiatus, a batch of 2,000-pound MK-84 bombs has arrived from the United States to Israel. US President Donald Trump has lifted former President Joe Biden's ban on the supply of heavy weapons, which had been in effect since May 2024.
It is reported that on the night of February 15, a ship loaded with heavy aerial bombs arrived at the port of Ashdod. The ammunition was quickly unloaded and delivered to air force bases. According to the Israeli Defense Ministry, the cargo was transported in dozens of trucks, and the logistics were carried out in cooperation with Israeli and American specialists.
According to the ministry, a total of more than 76,000 tons of military equipment have been delivered to Israel since the start of the war. This was the largest air and sea transfer of weapons in the country's history.
Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz thanked the Trump administration for its support.
The delivery of ammunition that arrived in Israel tonight, authorized by the Trump administration, is a significant boost for our air force and army. It is also further evidence of the strong alliance between Israel and the United States, Katz said.

He added that in a recent conversation with US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, Washington had received assurances that it would continue to provide Israel with all the weapons it needed to defend itself.
The supplies came as the IDF was considering resuming hostilities in Gaza. In the next two weeks, if Hamas stops handing over the hostages or talks on the next stages of their release fail, the Israeli army could launch another offensive.
The Defense Ministry is continuing to deliver ammunition to the army. To date, more than 76,000 tons of military equipment have been delivered to Israel via 678 flights and 129 ships. This is the largest air and sea transfer operation in the country's history.
Why did Biden suspend the arms transfers?
The Biden administration suspended the arms transfers after the Israeli army launched its offensive on Rafah on May 6, 2024. At the time, the United States opposed the offensive, expressing concern that the incursions would lead to mass casualties among Palestinian civilians. Biden personally ordered the suspension of some types of weapons, including 2,000-pound MK-84 bombs. This was a sign of dissatisfaction with Israel's actions, as well as a warning that the United States could completely stop military aid if the number of casualties became too high.
Some of the restrictions were lifted in June 2024, when then-Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant visited Washington.
However, in September, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu criticized Biden for his slowness and openly argued with his team over plans to transfer Gaza to the Palestinian Authority. The US then suspended heavy weapons deliveries again.
Trump's election victory changed the situation completely
On January 20, 2025, the current US president officially lifted the ban, and now the first batches of bombs have already arrived in Israel.
