Costa Rica has agreed to accept 200 citizens of countries such as Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan and India who were deported from the United States, Dunyo Agency reports.
According to Reuters, migrants from the United States can be detained in Costa Rica for up to six weeks and then sent home. Deportees are kept in a special facility and cannot leave this area.
The first deportation plane from the United States, carrying 135 illegal immigrants, mainly from Asian countries, is expected to land in Costa Rica on February 20. 65 of these migrants are minors.
Ahror Burkhanov, a spokesman for the Uzbek Foreign Minister, noted that the Embassy of Uzbekistan in Washington and the Consulate General in New York have been closely cooperating with the relevant US law enforcement agencies for many years to ensure the safe deportation of Uzbeks to their homeland.
“In accordance with our agreements, the American side promptly informs about each case of our citizens being deported. According to established practice, our citizens return to their homeland via the New York-Tashkent route.
We are monitoring media reports about the possible deportation of Uzbek citizens to other countries. On this issue, our diplomatic missions have requested information about the possible deportation of Uzbek citizens to other countries by the United States. In addition, contacts have been established with Latin American countries through diplomatic channels in this regard.
"Our diplomatic missions will provide all-round assistance to all citizens of Uzbekistan, regardless of where they are," said a representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
