Zelensky apologizes to Trump for Oval Office row

Zelensky apologizes to Trump for Oval Office row
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has apologized to US President Donald Trump for the row that took place in the Oval Office in late February. This was announced by the US President's special representative for the Middle East, Steve Whitkoff.

According to Whitkoff, speaking on Fox News, Zelensky has sent a letter to Trump, formally apologizing for the row that took place in the White House.

"Zelensky sent a letter to the president. He apologized for the row that took place in the Oval Office. I think this was an important step, and there were many discussions between our teams, as well as between Ukrainians and Europeans involved in this incident," Whitkoff said.

However, it is still unclear what kind of "apology" Zelensky intended and what kind of letter he sent to Trump.

Zelensky expressed regret over the White House meeting

On March 4, Zelensky wrote on the social network X about his impressions after the meeting and admitted that the White House meeting did not go as expected.

"I regret that this happened. It's time to fix everything. We want future cooperation and dialogue to be constructive," the Ukrainian leader's post said.

Trump, in his speech to Congress, announced that he had received an important letter from Zelensky and expressed his "gratitude for the news."

At the same time, Ukraine's Ambassador to the United States, Oksana Markarova, said that Zelensky did not write a separate letter to Trump. According to her, Trump quoted the Ukrainian president's March 4 post in his address to Congress.

Oval Office Quarrel and Its Consequences

On February 28, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and US Vice President J.D. Vance had a heated argument during an event in the Oval Office.

After that, the Ukrainian leader left the meeting early, and the rare metals agreement between the two countries was not signed.

Later, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio insisted that Zelensky apologize for the White House quarrel. However, the Ukrainian president said that he did not intend to comply with this demand.

It is not yet clear how this state of relations between Zelensky and Trump will affect the cooperation between the two countries. However, analysts note that the position of the Ukrainian president may affect the issue of military and economic assistance from the United States.
