Will Drivers in Kazakhstan Have to Retake Their License Exam?
In 2024, over 31,000 road accidents with casualties were recorded in Kazakhstan, Finratings.kz reports. Senator Marat Kozhaev believes that one of the main reasons for high accident rates is the insufficient training of drivers.

In his request to Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov, he proposed reforms in driver training and oversight, including mandatory recertification every 10 years.

Kozhaev’s Key Proposals:
Strengthening state control over driving schools.
Introducing a probation period for new drivers.
Mandatory advanced driving courses six months after obtaining a license.
Periodic testing of road rules and practical driving skills every 10 years.
Transferring control of driver’s license issuance to the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
Establishing specialized driving centers and test tracks in major cities.

The senator also suggested improvements to road infrastructure, such as multi-level pedestrian crossings, better lighting, sidewalks, and accelerated construction of bypass roads.
