Tensions between the US and Iran: Trump's warning and Tehran's response
Former US President Donald Trump has said that a deal on Iran's nuclear program may not be signed. He said that if an agreement is not reached, Iran could face "unprecedented bombardment." This was reported by Reuters.

Trump's ultimatum

In an interview with NBC on March 30, Trump warned Iran:

"If they don't make a deal, they will definitely face bombardment - bombardment like they've never seen before."

In addition, Trump also announced that he would impose a second level of economic sanctions on Iran. According to him, this move will be similar to the sanctions he imposed in 2016-2020.

Iran and the issue of negotiations

Trump's warning comes against the backdrop of attempts to start negotiations with Iran. According to Reuters, in early March, Trump sent a letter to Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, offering to hold talks on the nuclear program. At the same time, he made the following statement in an interview with Fox Business:

"There are two ways to solve the Iran issue: military and through negotiations. I prefer negotiations because I do not want to harm Iran."

Tehran's response

Iranian President Masoud Pizishian officially responded to this US demand on March 30. According to CNN, he announced that he had refused direct negotiations with Washington on the nuclear program. At the same time, Tehran expressed its readiness to communicate indirectly through Oman. According to Pizishkian:

"We are not running away from negotiations; the problems were caused by the failure to keep promises in the first place. They need to prove themselves in practice."

Nuclear program and international security

The UN nuclear watchdog reported in a February 2024 report that Iran has accelerated its enrichment of uranium to a level close to weapons-grade. This is increasing the concerns of Israel and the United States. Washington and Tel Aviv have repeatedly stated that they will not allow Iran to acquire nuclear weapons.

The conflict between Iran and the United States is intensifying. Donald Trump's warning and Iran's refusal to negotiate increase the likelihood of new confrontations in international politics. It remains unclear what measures the international community will take to resolve this conflict.
