Apple has confirmed that Indonesia has lifted its ban on the sale of iPhone 16, according to a report by 9to5mac.
Why was the ban imposed?
In October 2024, the Indonesian government blocked iPhone 16 sales, claiming Apple failed to meet investment commitments.
Apple stated it had invested:
$109 million into a developers academy,
and $10 million into local manufacturing.
Authorities, however, deemed this insufficient. Apple proposed an additional $100 million, but the government demanded $1 billion.
Apple lost access to a huge market
After the ban, only 9,000 iPhone 16 units were shipped to Indonesia’s 283 million population — a massive blow to Apple’s sales in the region.
What’s next?
With the ban lifted, Apple can:
resume legal sales of its devices in Indonesia.
This marks a return to one of Asia’s most important and fastest-growing markets.
