TechCrunch, one of the world's most influential technology publications, is bringing its famous Startup Battlefield competition to Australia. Organized in partnership with Stripe, this event aims to discover the country's most talented and promising new projects. As part of the Stripe Tour taking place in Sydney on August 19, eight finalist startups will pitch their ideas to investors, journalists, and the broader tech community. The Startup Battlefield competition is considered one of the most prestigious platforms for startups globally. To date, this competition has served as a launchpad for over 1,700 companies that are now worth billions of dollars, such as Dropbox, Cloudflare, Discord, and Trello. These projects have raised a total of $32 billion in investment, with 250 of them being acquired by major corporations.

The battle for victory and key prizes

The winner of the competition will receive not only a cash prize but also a unique opportunity to go global. The first-place winner will receive $15,000 in Stripe payment credits, along with a ticket to the prestigious TechCrunch Disrupt conference in San Francisco in 2026. The second and third-place winners will receive $5,000 and $2,000 in Stripe credits, respectively.

Making it onto the Startup Battlefield 200 list at TechCrunch Disrupt 2026 is the fastest route for any startup to enter the global market. The success of the previous winner, HealthMatch, which is now valued at over $25 million and serves millions of patients worldwide, proves the effectiveness of this platform.

Jury: A blend of experience and analysis

One of the most important factors determining a project's success is the jury. This year's competition will be judged by the most prominent representatives of the Australian startup ecosystem. Among them is Stripe representative Jasmine Liew, who has extensive experience in scaling businesses globally and in modern commercial payment infrastructure.

The jury also includes venture partner and active angel investor Brendan Hill, as well as experienced entrepreneur Jarron Aizen. Hill evaluates projects from an investor's perspective, while Aizen, knowing the challenges of building a startup from his own experience, poses the most complex questions. This ensures that only the strongest and most viable projects are selected.
