Prosecutor arrested in connection with the death of 23-year-old Mehrona Noibova

The Prosecutor General's Office of Tajikistan has provided its first official comment on the case regarding the death of 23-year-old Dushanbe resident Mehrona Noibova, announcing that one of its employees has been arrested as part of the investigation.

Prosecutor General Habibullo Vohidzoda stated at a press conference that Firuz Saidzoda has been arrested and is currently being held in custody.

According to him, on the day of the incident, Saidzoda was traveling for personal matters and utilized the driving services of Davlat Arabzodaduring the trip.

Vohidzoda also emphasized that Davlat Arabzoda, whose name was previously mentioned in the media, is not involved in the incident. He stated that Arabzoda only participated as a driver.

The case of Mehrona Noibova's death drew widespread public attention after her body on April 7 was found on the banks of the Panj River in the Darvoz district.

According to reports, Mehrona on April 3 went to the «Chorchaman» recreation center in the Darvoz district with friends, including two employees of the Prosecutor General's Office. She on the morning of April 4 went missing.

According to previously released information, witnesses told investigators that Mehrona fell into the water while on the riverbank. However, the deceased's relatives have expressed disbelief in the official suicide theory and continue to demand an impartial investigation.

Prosecutor General Habibullo Vohidzoda stated that the investigation is ongoing and that law enforcement agencies are thoroughly examining all circumstances of the case.
