The President of the United States of America, Donald Trump, gave a positive assessment of the important negotiations held in London on April 23. At which representatives of Europe, Ukraine and the United States discussed the issue of stabilizing the Russia-Ukraine conflict. The report on the negotiations was broadcast live on Fox News.
In a conversation with reporters at the White House, Trump assessed the negotiations as productive and noted that the first steps were taken to resolve the conflict.
“Yes, I think the negotiations went well,” Trump said. — “It takes two strong and intelligent people to reach an agreement to solve this problem.”
The United States, Ukraine and Europe - who was behind the negotiations?
On the American side, Trump's special representative for Ukraine, Keith Kellogg, participated in the negotiations. Many expected the participation of US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, but it was Kellogg who led the delegation.
The Ukrainian side was represented by the head of the presidential administration, Andriy Yermak, First Deputy Foreign Minister Andriy Sibikha, and Defense Minister Rustem Umerov. France and Germany limited themselves to sending their advisers to the meeting.
Crimea and NATO issues - topical issues in the negotiations
During the negotiations, according to Western media, proposals were discussed to temporarily "freeze" the front line, ask Ukraine to abandon its desire to join NATO, as well as provide security guarantees to Kiev in exchange for the possibility of recognizing Crimea as Russian territory.
Washington had previously stated that it would reconsider its role as a mediator in the negotiations if real results were not achieved. Kiev, in turn, emphasizes that it is impossible to recognize Crimea as Russian under any circumstances.
Crimea: Is the dispute over or not yet over?
Russia sees Crimea as its territory and insists that the issue is closed. Ukraine, on the other hand, does not want to back down from its position on this point.
It is still unknown what the outcome of the talks in London will be. However, intense action has resumed on the political scene. Most importantly, the fact that peace efforts have begun is itself a positive sign. Read 'Zamin' on Telegram!
