Archaeologists in Peru have discovered a rare and important find: the mummified body of a woman from the ancient Caral-Supe civilization. The country's Ministry of Culture reported this.
It is believed that this mummy lived about 5 thousand years ago. According to experts, the body of a woman aged about 25-30 was found in a relatively well-preserved state. Even her hair, nails and skin were intact.
The ancient body was found in the Aspero archaeological site in the north of the country. This place was one of the important centers of the Caral-Supe civilization, which existed between 3000 and 1800 BC.
The mummy was wrapped in several specially prepared fabrics. In particular, it was wrapped in mats made of cotton and reeds.
According to archaeologists, the woman's grave also contained many valuable items. Among them were baskets made of reeds, a needle for weaving, an Amazonian seashell, a bird's beak decorated with various colorful ornaments, woolen cloth, a fishing net, about 30 sweet potatoes, and tools used in weaving.
Scientists who analyzed the mummy's clothing and the objects found in the grave believe that this woman had a high social status in her time. Four other graves of people of similar status have been discovered in the Aspero area before.
According to experts, such findings indicate that the ancient Caral-Supe civilization was formed as a society and that social groups were divided within it. This will further enrich scientific views on this civilization.
