Trump congratulates Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney on his election victory
US President Donald Trump spoke with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney by phone and sincerely congratulated him on the victory of the Liberal Party in the country's snap parliamentary elections. This was reported by the press service of the Canadian Prime Minister on Tuesday, April 29.

According to the official statement, during the conversation, the leaders of the two states noted the importance of further strengthening relations between the United States and Canada as "independent and sovereign states." Based on this, Trump and Carney expressed their desire to hold a personal meeting in the near future.

On April 28, snap parliamentary elections were held in Canada. This process reportedly took place against the backdrop of deteriorating relations with the United States, including Washington's imposition of high tariffs on Canadian exports and Trump's threat to "turn Canada into the 51st state of the United States."

In a speech on the occasion of his party's victory, Mark Carney pledged to firmly reject the aggressive policy of the United States and maintain a tough position in this direction.

After 99.9 percent of the votes were counted, the Liberal Party of Canada won 169 seats in parliament. This result shows that it was very close to winning an absolute majority in parliament (172 seats). At the same time, the opposition Conservative Party, led by Pierre Poilieu, won 144 seats in parliament.

Mark Carney was also congratulated by world leaders on his victory in the elections. In particular, on the morning of April 30, French President Emmanuel Macron, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, and UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres sent their congratulations to Carney.
