One of the leaders of Hamas, Abdurahman Shadid, announced that the organization is ready to sign a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.
“HAMAS confirms its readiness to conclude an agreement to exchange Israeli hostages for Palestinian prisoners and has already expressed its proposal in this regard. However, Israel is obstructing the success of the negotiations, and now the ball is in their court,” said Abdurahman Shadid.
He stressed that Hamas will consider any proposal for a permanent ceasefire, the withdrawal of Israeli troops from the Gaza Strip and an exchange agreement.
On April 29, Israeli officials announced that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu plans to end the conflict in the Gaza Strip by October. Meanwhile, the IDF is preparing to intensify its military operations. Israel resumed its strikes on Palestine on March 18, after a two-month ceasefire expired. In mid-April, the UN reported that no humanitarian aid had reached Palestine since the start of the fighting.
Earlier, Egypt and Qatar, which are mediating in the talks between Israel and Hamas, put forward a new proposal for a ceasefire and the release of hostages in the Gaza Strip. The proposal includes "a five- to seven-year ceasefire, a formal end to the war, a complete withdrawal of the Israeli army from Gaza, and the release of all Israeli hostages held in Israeli prisons in exchange for Palestinian prisoners."
