US President Donald Trump has not denied that the country's economy could potentially enter a recession. However, he firmly believes that the outcome of this process will end positively. He emphasized this in an interview with NBC.
"Anything can happen. But I think we will have the strongest economy in the history of this country," Trump said in response to a question about the possibility of a recession.
"I'm not worried"
The American leader noted that he is not very worried about this issue and that the country's economy is currently going through a "transition period". In his opinion, the US economy will return to stable growth before long.
"I'm not worried. This is just a temporary process. In the end, we will have very strong results," Trump continued.
Ellen's view: Tariffs are hurting the economy
Meanwhile, former US Treasury Secretary Janet Ellen expressed a different point of view. In an interview with the Financial Times, she said that Trump's trade policies and the tariffs he imposed were the reason for the country's recession.
"The US is currently heavily dependent on the supply of minerals from China. If high tariffs on imports are maintained, this will lead to severe pressure and weakness in various sectors of the country's economy," Ellen said.
What is a recession?
A recession is a term that refers to a slowdown in economic growth or a decline in production. It was usually introduced in the United States after the Great Depression to avoid the word "depression".
This term refers to a temporary slowdown in the economy, that is, a decrease in indicators such as production, consumption and investment.
The topic of economic growth in the United States is once again causing political debate. President Trump, while not denying the possibility of a recession, believes that its outcome will be positive. On the other hand, former officials assess this process as a foreseeable danger.
